St. Nicholas Blacklist

How not to be blacklisted by St. Nicholas?

Who doesn't receive gifts from St. Nicholas? It turns out that everyone gets it, but one gets the coveted radio-controlled car, and the other gets rods and coals. If you managed to find the second under the pillow, then you are a naughty rowdy, alas, and St Nicholas sent you to his black list. Lucky that getting out of the category of "hooligans" is not so difficult. It is enough to behave well, not offend anyone and do good deeds.

Someone will have a reasonable question: “Who is this St Nicholas, where did he come from, and why should he keep a black list”. History says the following on this score.

Who is Saint Nicholas?

The earliest mentions of Nicholas are traced between 270 and 286 AD. He lived in the territory of modern Turkey and came from a wealthy family of believers. Little Nikolai decided to devote himself to good deeds, but he kept all good deeds secret.

Once people nevertheless found out that Nicholas was a real example of virtue and chose him as their bishop. All his life he performed merciful deeds, and now he helps others to do good, rewarding everyone who behaves well towards others with a gift.

So how to celebrate St. Nicholas Day?

Celebrating St. Nicholas Day began in medieval Germany. Parents put sweets under the pillows for their children in order to generate faith in the miraculous power of the saint. Everyone liked the custom so much that it soon spread to other countries and has survived to this day.

Ukraine has its own peculiarities of celebrating St. Nicholas Day. In Podillia, for example, they are waiting for a person with good energy, who will be the first to cross the threshold of the house. In the Slobozhansk region they bake children's cookies called “nikolaychiki”, and in the Kharkiv region they cook uzvar and kutya.

Every house has its own Miracle Worker!

The peculiarities of the day of St. Nicholas do not end there, because each family has its own unique traditions. They are passed down from generation to generation and are being improved every time.
